ElevenLabs vs Murf: which AI voice tool should a beginner pick?
Both turn text into lifelike speech. Here's how their pricing and setup differ, based on official pages and our hands-on tests of both free plans.

Hands-on tested Oct 2026. We used the tool ourselves on the free plan; details are in the “Our hands-on test” section. Prices and plans are from official pages (last checked Oct 2026). How we test
Short answer (both hands-on tested on free plans)
Just curious and want to try for free? ElevenLabs has a clear free plan (10,000 credits a month). Building an app that talks? Murf publishes simple per-character API prices and gives $10 of free API credit to start. Need commercial rights on a budget? Murf's Studio Creator plan ($19/month billed yearly) includes them; Murf's free Studio plan has no downloads or commercial rights.
Biggest free-plan difference in our tests: ElevenLabs let us download our audio free; Murf's free plan doesn't allow downloads (“Upgrade to one of the paid plans to export your projects”).
Our hands-on tests (Oct 14, 2026, free plans)
ElevenLabs
- 71-character sentence cost 71 of 10,000 monthly credits
- 2 takes in ~1.5s; voice Roger, model Eleven v4
- MP3 download (44.1kHz, 128kbps), no watermark seen
Murf
- Signup: our first email domain was rejected; a Gmail address worked (email verification link)
- Same 71-character sentence rendered 5.0 seconds with the default voice Ruby (female, English US, “Angry” style preset), using about 1 second of the 10 free minutes (10:00 → 9:59)
- Export menu lists Video / Voice only / Voice + Music / Script and MP3, WAV, FLAC, OGG and more, but no download on free
- No audio sample: we couldn't export one
We haven't judged voice quality for either tool yet.
